Rocca del Drago is a natural rock formation located in the heart of the Aspromonte, in the Grecanic area of Calabria, near the abandoned village of Roghudi. This rock, shaped by erosion over millennia, has a peculiar form with two cavities that resemble the eyes of a dragon, from which it gets its name.
A short distance away are the Caldaie del Latte, another geological formation consisting of seven spherical rocks protruding from a single friable rock block. Both formations are immersed in a stunning natural landscape, characterized by Mediterranean vegetation and hiking trails that connect them to the villages of Bova and Roghudi.
Rocca del Drago is also at the center of a popular legend: it is said that a blind dragon lived in the rock, terrorizing the inhabitants of Roghudi. To calm it, they offered it hot milk prepared in the Caldaie del Latte. One day, a friar managed to calm the dragon by telling it stories, but after the friar's death, the dragon became fierce again, forcing the inhabitants to flee the village.
Today, Rocca del Drago and the Caldaie del Latte represent an interesting destination for nature lovers and those fascinated by local legends, offering a unique experience combining geology, history, and tradition.
