Monte Perre and the Rocks of San Pietro

Monte Perre, at an altitude of 1,390 meters, is one of the most significant peaks of the Crinale degli Dei, located in the Aspromonte National Park. This ridge is known for its breathtaking landscapes and majestic oaks that cling to its rocks. The area is particularly appreciated by birdwatching enthusiasts, as it provides a prime spot for observing raptor migration, especially in autumn. The path leading to the summit of Monte Perre begins at the Zillastro pine forest, at 1,220 meters above sea level, offering spectacular views of the surrounding area.
The Rocks of San Pietro are rock formations located in the Valley of the Great Stones, near the village of Natile Vecchio. These rocks, shaped by the erosion of water and wind, have natural cavities that were adapted by the Basilian monks between the 9th and 12th centuries as hermitages. The main cave has a sub-rectangular layout with two interconnecting rooms and several openings. Nearby, there are other smaller caves, also used as rock dwellings. The area is rich in legends and traditions related to the presence of monks and the spirituality of the place.
Both sites represent important testimonies of the history and culture of the Grecanic area, offering the visitor a unique experience that combines nature, spirituality, and tradition.
